The EarScratcher is designed so that it's impossible to damage the eardrum. The little metal scraper is shorter than the shortest ear canal and the spherical base is larger than the largest outer opening of the ear canal. The little loop goes back around the earwax and is designed not to push it further down the ear canal. The little loop also ensures that the earwax can be scraped out easily. This in contrast with cotton swabs that actually push the earwax deeper in the direction of the eardrum.
